26 Steps Backwards to End Epilepsy Challenge
WHO?
You!! Whether you've been challenged or not, you can make your own 26 Steps Backwards to End Epilepsy video!
WHAT?
Film yourself or have someone film you taking 26 steps backwards and then donate $26 forwards to End Epilepsy. Post your video on social media with #26steps and #EndEpilepsy and challenge at least three people to do the same. For inspiration, here is my video:
WHERE?
Anywhere you want! Have fun with your video. Be creative. But most importantly, be safe!
WHEN?
NOW! We can't keep waiting to End Epilepsy!
WHY?
To End Epilepsy and to better the lives of individuals and families affected by epilepsy. All of the $26 donations will go directly to the Epilepsy Foundation to support local programs for families affected by epilepsy —
such as camp, family day and workshops — and research and awareness to support the nationwide fight to End Epilepsy.
NO! WHY 26 STEPS BACKWARDS?
26 steps: One in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime. One in 26! That's a lot of people! Also, a marathon is 26.2 miles long.
Backwards: Having epilepsy can be like going through life backwards - you cannot see what's ahead of you because seizures can come out of nowhere.
HOW?
It's super easy! Just follow this basic outline (bolded words are important to say; everything else is up to you):
-Introduce yourself.
-“I accept [whoever challenged you or if no one has challenged you, then "the"] challenge to take 26 steps backwards and donate $26 forwards to End Epilepsy.”
-Take 26 steps backwards, as you or someone else counts your steps. While you’re taking your super awesome 26 steps backwards, you should mention that “one in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime.” Other than that, you can say something about epilepsy or anything else for that matter. It should be personal to you and from the heart, and hopefully be something positive and hopeful :)
-“I will now pay it forward by donating $26 to End Epilepsy at 26steps.org”
-“I now challenge [3-5 people of your choosing] to accept the challenge to take 26 steps backwards and donate $26 forwards to End Epilepsy.”
-Post your video on social media, tagging the people you challenged and using the following hashtags:
